Raspberry Thyme Cocktail
Cocktails with herbs scream spring to me. In bar-tending, we would challenge ourselves to find new twists on simple cocktails. Many times fresh herbs would be what would enhance the drink. This Raspberry Thyme Cocktail is dressed with fresh berries and fresh thyme along with a good silver rum.
When making this cocktail you will need a muddle. This allows the pressing of the herbs and berries to release flavors that mix well with the silver rum. To make this a raspberry gin cocktail just replace the rum with gin. Add the berries and herbs then use the muddle to release the flavors.
Fresh orange banana juice in the cocktail helps allow for a little citrus. This is nice and refreshing when it comes to a spring or summer cocktail. While we don’t add too much orange juice to over ride the flavor just enough to add light hints of flavor. Citrus allows for acids in the drink which is similar to s shrub just without the vinegar’s. The banana adds mildness to the cocktail.
Raspberries are better when freshly picked. Growing up in California remember all the fresh berries but you just don’t see that here in Texas. I cannot wait to move to the pacific northwest to grow an entire greenhouse full of goodies. If you can get fresh raspberries for your cocktail it will make the world of difference in flavor. Fresh berries are more tart and sweet on their own.
A friend recently told me to visit Pier 1. Always thought that place was over priced but this cute little cocktail glass was about a dollar on the clearance racks. How cute and Scandinavian is this! Raspberry Thyme Cocktail
This Raspberry Thyme Cocktail is dressed with fresh berries and fresh thyme along with a good silver rum.
- 10 raspberries
- 3 sprigs of thyme
- 2 oz silver rum
- sparkling water
- 1 tablespoon orange banana juice
- Muddle raspberries and 1 sprig of thyme. Add ice and the rum. Give a good stir. Add in orange banana juice.
- Top off with sparkling water. Garnish with thyme and raspberries.
