Road Trip River Name Game

Every since I was young we used to play a game when we went on road trips. We would get a Pepperidge Farm® Goldfish® crackers from Walmart and separate them into snack size bags. We would play a game called we called Road Trip River Name Game.

When on the road with a map we would try to find the next river or body of water that we would be crossing.

You could use the map to help find the rivers, streams, lakes, and etc. Once you found the body of water the very first person when crossing it to name the name would be able to eat a cracker.

We would tally up everyone’s wins and at the end of the game. That person would get the chance to pick the next game.

Great for Learning

What is really kind of awesome about this game is how great it is for learning the geography around you. Learning to also pronounce words that you have never seen before. Additionally, it’s a fun way to interact with the entire family while on a road trip.

Having a few highlighters on hand will help in locating the bodies of water. Teaching how to use the map legend before the road trip also helps. We always picked up our Goldfish crackers in Walmart

Goldfish crackers were just the perfect small road trip snack for us. Often we would build a basket for each person with plenty of snacks including the goldfish for the River Name Game.

This way everyone would have their own basket and it became easier for everyone to know who’s was who’s in the car.

I purchased the Pepperidge Farm® Goldfish® crackers Cheddar and the Pepperidge Farm® Goldfish® crackers Pepperidge Farm® Goldfish® crackers Xtra Cheddar in 30 oz. cartons from Walmart. Right now they are on Rollback for $6.46, in store only.

My most favorite memory of playing this game was with my grandmother when we went on a 16 state road trip. We went over some rivers that were extremely difficult to pronounce that we would laugh at how we would try to say them.

Often we would ask the people in the convenience store to see how it was said in order to see who won the game!

Do you have a road trip game you like to play? I’d love to hear about it below!
